10 things to remember in an accident
Make sure everyone in your vehicle is ok.
Pull your vehicle over to the side of the road if possible.
Call the police and notify them of the accident immediately.
Call for an ambulance if you or your passengers feel any pain.
Have your information (license, insurance, registration) ready for the police.
Do not discuss the accident with the other party, but take notes if they discuss it with you.
Pay special attention if the other driver had been drinking or was otherwise impaired (i.e., eating/drinking in the car or on their cell phone).
Stop any witnesses and get their contact information. Ask the witnesses what they observed and ask them to wait for the police to arrive so that they can give their statement to the police. If they do not want to wait, get their license plate information.
